Bermuda Launches Casino Resort Site Selection Process

The island nation of Bermuda is now welcoming proposals for specific locations to host casino resorts. Developers interested in this opportunity are encouraged to submit their plans for review. Legislation passed in 2014, the Bermuda Gaming Act, permits the issuance of up to three casino licenses. Prior to applying for these licenses, developers must obtain designated site approval for their proposed properties. The Gaming Commission, formed in February of the previous year, will evaluate all applications and provide suggestions to the appropriate government officials. Although a precise schedule is not yet available, the Commission has pledged to expedite the application process.

Commission head, Alan Dunch, contends that casino resorts will generate employment opportunities for Bermudian citizens and attract additional investment. He remarked that “a properly overseen commercial gaming sector will bolster [Bermuda’s] tourism product” and offer amenities sought after by international visitors.
