Marylands gaming establishments generated a substantial $143.8 million in September 2018, representing a 6.9% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2017. This remarkable revenue surge secured September 2018 as the fourth most lucrative month for the state’s gambling sector.
MGM National Harbor, the flagship property among Marylands casinos, maintained its position as the highest revenue generator, amassing an impressive $54.4 million, a 10.3% rise from the preceding year. Concurrently, Ocean Downs Casino in Ocean City emerged as a standout performer with the most notable year-on-year expansion, recording a 13.9% surge and collecting $7.5 million.
Nevertheless, not all gaming venues experienced prosperity. Rocky Gap Casino Resort witnessed a 1.3% dip in revenue to $4.6 million, while Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino faced a 1.6% decrease, earning $20.6 million.
This influx of casino earnings translated into a considerable $59.5 million contribution to Marylands treasury, with a substantial portion, $44.6 million, designated for the Education Trust Fund. The remaining funds were allocated to support the localities accommodating these casinos and strengthening Marylands horse racing sector.
