The Ladbrokes Coral Group, a result of the union between Ladbrokes and Coral, is being compelled by UK antitrust rules to divest a portion of its retail locations (approximately 350 to 400). Betfred, a competing wagering firm, has shown significant desire in acquiring 360 of these establishments in a transaction projected to be valued at roughly £100 million.
Jennifer Boyle, the head of retail operations at Betfred, affirmed their aims, emphasizing their goal to broaden their footprint throughout the United Kingdom and characterizing this prospect as a “unique” agreement. A cutoff date for proposals was in place, and it appears Betfred was diligently working to conclude their offer.
BoyleSports, a bookmaking firm from Ireland, is engaging in discussions to purchase wagering establishments from Ladbrokes and Coral. This potential acquisition signifies the company’s initial venture beyond Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, where it currently manages over 200 shops.
“Our objective is to establish a presence for us within the UK,” stated Conor Gray, the Chief Executive Officer of BoyleSports. “We are in the very preliminary stages of this process. The subsequent step involves obtaining authorization, after which we will be able to provide further details.”
The precise quantity of shops that Ladbrokes and Coral intend to divest remains uncertain.
Ladbrokes opted not to provide a statement to Gambling Insider when approached for comment, while Gala Coral has not yet furnished a response.
